Nokia N96

The N96 is an evolution of the dual-slider design Nokia released with the N95 two years ago. However, compared to the initial N95, the N96 is not as thick, though it’s wider. The slider is more taut, and there are fewer gaps in the build.

The slide mechanism has also been tweaked and now feels much smoother and sturdier, but the unique dual keypad arrangement has been retained. If you slide the screen upwards you’re met by the standard numerical keypad, but when you slide it downwards a column of four media playback controls (play, stop, fast-forward and rewind) are revealed.

Blind People experience the Sea life.

Anyone have heared the Audio Aquarium? Georgia Tech scientists have dreamed up a contraption called the “audio aquarium” as a way to let blind people experience sea life. The researchers say they wanted to help people with disabilities do something that’s more fun than functional.

The “audio aquarium” works through a camera that uses recognition software that tracks objects based on their shape and color. It then links each movement to different instruments that change in pitch and tempo as the fish patrol the tank. Fish that move toward the surface have a higher pitch. The faster they move, the faster the tempo.

Blu Ray Disc.

Blu-ray Disc (also known as Blu-ray or BD) is an optical disc storage medium. Its main uses are high-definition video and data storage. The disc has the same physical dimensions as standard DVDs and CDs.The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data.

While current optical disc technologies such as DVD, DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD-RAM rely on a red laser to read and write data, the new format uses a blue-violet laser instead, hence the name Blu-ray. The benefit of using a blue-violet laser (405nm) is that it has a shorter wavelength than a red laser (650nm), which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision. Blu-ray Disc uses a “blue” (technically violet) laser operating at a wavelength of 405 nm to read and write data. › Continue reading…

The fourth-generation iPod nano isn’t the dramatic overhaul last year’s nano was.

If you’ve already got a 3G nano, the 4G model’s new features may not be compelling enough to get you to upgrade–especially if you prefer the 3G model’s more-pocket-friendly shape. And even with twice the storage at the same price, the new nano won’t satisfy those who want to carry massive amounts of media with them or who watch lots of video.

Nevertheless, the 4G iPod nano is a solid upgrade, offering useful new features in Genius and Spoken Menus; new voice-recording functionality; a gimmicky-but-useful accelerometer; an improved interface and menu system; and a number of other minor improvements. Interestingly, of these new features, only Genius and the new microphone compatibility are available on the latest iPod classic, meaning the iPod nano has, for the first time, surpassed the classic/full-size line in functionality.

Specs

Capacity 16GB flash memory
Dimensions 1.5″ x .24″ x 3.6″
Weight 1.3 ounces
Rated battery life 24 hours (music), 4 hours (video)
Included accessories USB dock cable, Universal dock insert, earbuds.
Display size 2 inches, 320×240 pixels, color
